Pena de Pato Douro Red brings the richness and intense character of the Douro region, in the Northeast of Portugal, recognised worldwide for unique wines of appealing complexity.

Tasting Notes

Pena de Pato Douro Red 2007 is a deep red in colour wine with good intensity. Its bouquet is dominated by ripe red fruit (plum), floral aromas (violet) and some hints of evolution such as tobacco and cedar. In the mouth, it is a smooth wine, with good body and well integrated acidity showing soft yet persistent evolution on the palate, resulting in a very harmonious wine.

Serving Suggestion

Pena de Pato Douro Red goes well with meat, poultry, pasta and a good selection of cheeses. Intended for early drinking, it does not require decanting and should be served at 14º C-16º C.

Varieties & Winemaking

Pena de Pato Douro Red 2007is a blended wine produced with selected grapes from recommended native red varieties - mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca - planted in the rugged Douro Valley.

The grapes selected for Pena de Pato Douro Red 2007 were hand-picked at their ideal ripeness and vinified at Sogrape's wine-centre where they were de-stemmed, crushed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. The fermenting wines underwent skin maceration and pumping over at about 28º C, thus allowing the best components of the grapes to pass to the wine. Then, the malolactic fermentation that followed promoted an extra roundness to the wine.

Ageing and Storage

The selected wines were stored in Sogrape's Douro facilities throughout the winter. The cold favoured a natural clarification and the continuous tasting helped identify the most suited wines for the final blend so as to guarantee a consistent style and maintain the character of the year. The final wine was filtered and cold stabilised before bottling. Pena de Pato Douro Red 2007 is ready to drink now or keep for some time in bottle. The bottle should be stored horizontally, in a dry and cool place.
